The Picket Chair is made of boards of two different widths - 9 and 14,5 cm wide. The ones of 9 cm are assembled as an “H” frame, the ones of 14,5 cm make the seat and the backrest.
Both seat and backrest form triangles with the “H” frame stiffening out the construction. Therefore there is no momentum on the “H” , but in reality two triangular systems overlap.
While crossing the blanks are not touching, but there is a cut out that ensures every system can run its course without complicated intersections.
The result is a ornamental detail that could be inspired by folding hands or fingers interlocking. The logic of the cut-out in the board is borrowed from a Tirolian balcony railing where the seams between boards are used to create perforations that also have an ornametal character.
